South Yorkshire Police
The revolutionary Mocam Apache surveillance system has been specified by Yorkshire Police to provide protection to the streets of Sheffield where gangs of youths congregate to cause a nuisance.
The 28 devices, which were purchased in conjunction with partners such as the Sheffield Safer Communities Partnership, have captured a range of offences on camera including car break-ins and assaults. Local residents also report a reduction in the number of youths hanging around.
An added benefit to the force is the use of the cameras to highlight the work being undertaken in the area to prevent break-ins – helping to instil a sense of confidence in the public.
With 24 hour a day monitoring and remote access available anywhere in South Yorkshire footage is also being used for possible evidence for offences reported nearby.
